Scotty McCreery to Sing 'American Idol' Elimination Song
UPDATED: The season 10 winner's recording of the Tim McGraw track "Please Remember Me" will debut on Thursday's results show.
Scotty McCreery has snagged a new role on American Idol as the voice of the Voted-Off Song, which serenades teary-eyed castoffs after they hear the bad news via Ryan Seacrest.
The baritone twang of last season's winner will be heard on a cover of Tim McGraw's "Please Remember Me" starting Thursday on Idol's results show. Wednesday night features performances by the top 13 finalists, one of whom is slated for elimination.
"I was ecstatic and I'm glad to get to be on there. It's cool to still be connected to the show every week," McCreery told USA Today. "Most likely, I'll be able to come back and perform and get to see all those familiar faces and give the current Idols some advice."

As previously reported, Adam Lambert, James Durbin and Chris Daughtry are among the alums slated to perform on the Idol stage this spring, in the show's 11th season. McCreery is expected to make a cameo as well.
The country singer, practically a lock to win the thing in 2011, has a bright future ahead of him: he's been on tour with Brad Paisley, and his debut album, Clear as Day, went platinum in January.
Besides McCreery, past Idol stars who've recorded the so-called Voted-Off Song include Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, David Cook and Ruben Studdard.
Simon Fuller sings McCreery's praises in a statement to THR on Wednesday.
"The success Scotty has enjoyed since he won Idol last year is incredible," said Idol's creator and executive producer. "He has a platinum album selling over a million copies in just a few short months and has enjoyed a sell out arena tour with Brad Paisley. With the release of this special song, 'Please Remember Me,' his success is set to continue and hit new highs. Idol is proud of all the incredible stars that have come from our show."
