  • Adam Sandler

Who knew one comedic holiday song on Saturday Night Live could turn into a worldwide phenomenon? Adam Sandler first performed "The Chanukah Song" in 1995 during the Weekend Update segment of the weekly sketch comedy series.

  • "Barenaked for the Holidays"

The Barenaked Ladies in 2005 released an all-encompassing holiday album, mixing Christmas classics with Hanukkah songs, including "Hanukkah Blessings," "I Have a Little Dreidel" and "Hanukkah, Oh Hanukkah."

  • Chrismukkah

A new holiday was popularized from Josh Schwartz's The O.C., when Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) concocts a way to celebrate the best of both Christmas and Hanukkah in his inter-faith household — Chrismukkah. Cohen describes the celebration as "eight days of presents, followed by one day of many presents."

In December 2004, TIME magazine listed Chrismukkah as one of the buzzwords of the year.

  • "Eight Crazy Nights"

Inspired by the lyrics of Sandler's "Chanukah Song," the comedian co-wrote and voiced several characters in the 2002 animated feature Eight Crazy Nights. But don't let the cartoon fool you: Eight Crazy Nights is dripping with adult humor and centers on a protagonist battling alcoholism and depression during Hanukkah.

  • Hanukkah Harry

When Santa Claus falls ill on Christmas Eve, Kris Kringle enlists the help of Hanukkah Harry (Jon Lovitz) to save the day. Watch the SNL skit here, which was first broadcast in 1989. Lovitz later reprised the role for an Easter/Passover-themed sketch in 1990.

  • Can I Interest You in Hanukkah?

Jon Stewart made a guest appearance to bring some Hanukkah cheer to Stephen Colbert's Christmas special. "Can I interest you in Hanukkah?" he sings. Watch the clip here.

  • "Chanukah on Planet Matzah Ball"

When a menorah crashes on Planet Matzah Ball, 9-year-old Oogie looks to Planet Earth to reinstate Hanukkah traditions in his own home in Chanukah on Planet Matzah Ball. To watch a clip from the children's film, click here.
