Billboard Music Awards: Drake, The Chainsmokers Lead Nominees

Twenty One Pilots scored 17 nominations, followed by Rihanna with 14, The Weeknd with 13 and Beyonce with eight.

The 2017 Billboard Music Awards nominations were announced on Monday.

Drake and The Chainsmokers led the pack with 22 nominations. Among those, Drake will compete for top artist, top male artist and top Billboard 200 artist. The Chainsmokers also will vie for top artist, as well as top duo/group and top 100 artist.

Twenty One Pilots followed with 17 noms, then Rihanna with 14, The Weeknd with 13 and Beyonce with eight.

The first five categories were announced by Pete Wentz and Julia Michaels on ABC's Good Morning America.

The Billboard Music Awards are set to air Sunday, May 21, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

Billboard Music Awards nominees are based on key fan interactions with music, including album and digital songs sales, streaming, radio airplay, touring and social engagement. These measurements are tracked year-round by Billboard and its data partners, including Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound. The awards are based on the reporting period of March 18, 2016, through March 16, 2017.
