Fox and Netflix lead the list of film and television for the 27th annual Environmental Media Association Awards with four apiece.

Moana, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, The Handmaid's Tale, Last Week Tonight With John Oliver and The Crown are among the nominees for the 2017 EMA Awards, which will recognize film and television works that have made a significant impact on the environmental world.

In addition to Al Gore (Inconvenient Sequel), filmmakers such as Leonardo DiCaprio (Before the Flood) and Michael Bloomberg (From the Ashes) are in the running for documentary film honors, while Disney's hit animation Moana is nominated for feature film alongside Netflix's Okja. The TV nominees also include The Simpsons, The Daily Show With Trevor Noah, Bill Nye Saves the World and Vice.

In addition, Russell Simmons will be honored with the EMA's Missions in Music Award.

Founded in 1989, the Environmental Media Association strives to promote environmental awareness and innovation through the influence of entertainment and media.

"This year's remarkable slate of nominees is a testament to the continued dedication and commitment that the entertainment community has on the environmental issues we are facing," EMA president and CEO Debbie Levin said Wednesday in a statement. "The EMA Awards will not only further amplify the voices and messages of each of these programs and films, but also inspire a new generation of activists in the film, television and new media community to produce environmental content; it is through these channels where storytelling has the power to educate and ignite change."

The event will be hosted by EMA board member Jaden Smith and will take place Sept. 23 at the Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Airport.
