In February, when designer Hedi Slimane presented his fall 2016 Saint Laurent runway show at the Hollywood Palladium, it wasn’t only a love song to Los Angeles, his adopted home, it was also a swan song for his adoring L.A. fan club (with Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Ellen Degeneres in the front row).

By April, Slimane had announced his departure from his post as creative director of the label, just four years after he’d started. And now that his final collection is trickling into stores, fans are stocking up on all the L.A.-tinged rock n' roll boots, bags and blazers he made Saint Laurent signatures.

"He made the perfect attire for going out at night — you want to be in black, comfortable and chic, with probably a statement jacket or a shoulder and he was genius at a shoulder," says L.A.-based accessories designer Clare Vivier. "I loved having him in L.A. as it just solidified what so many of us have been feeling — that L.A. is having a design moment on a global scale, and Paris is watching.”

During his tenure, Slimane brought unprecedented credibility to the L.A. fashion scene by moving his design team here, and opening a studio on Santa Monica Boulevard that is now vacant and has been leased out.

As a creative, he wrapped his arms around L.A., drawing inspiration from surf and skate culture (he regularly cast models himself off the streets and boardwalk), and rock 'n' roll grit in equal measure. And even when critics questioned his designs, including floaty ladies-of-the-canyon maxi dresses, fringed boots and sunset-printed sneakers, L.A.'s stylish set ate them up.

"I went to Saint Laurent yesterday to grab some things I am afraid will disappear," says florist-to-the-stars Eric Buterbaugh. "I adore Hedi personally and as a designer. Also his aesthetic is so my vibe. His boots are major and I am a boot whore ... So I have loaded up. Also, he makes the best skinny jeans ever ... Loaded up there as well. Also the cut of his shirts suits me. I am waiting for the black tie pieces to come in, too."

Slimane embraced young Hollywood in his work at Saint Laurent, including next-gen celebs Dylan Brosnan (son of Keely Shaye Smith and Pierce Brosnan), Dylan Lee (son of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee), Jack Kilmer (son of Joanne Whalley and Val Kilmer) and Lucia Santina Ribisi (daughter of Giovanni Ribisi), all of whom modeled in his shows and campaigns.

Although he shunned the media spotlight, he made many friends around town, including jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer, who counts him among her closest pals. He even named a bag after her, the crossbody Jen style.

"I have been stocking up since the minute he began. Each piece always felt special, and each collection was so thought out and meant so much to him," she says. "It’s a huge void, I don’t know how anyone else lives up to that," says Meyer.

At a recent party at director Brett Ratner’s house, Slimane told THR he has no plans to leave L.A.. Word has it, he’s working on launching his own label, and even has a business plan. "I have no doubt he will appear doing something else," Meyer says.

Until then, here are a few items from Slimane’s Saint Laurent, from both part 1 and part 2 of the fall 2016 collection, shown in LA. in February and in Paris in March, to get before they’re gone.
