The MTV Movie Awards are probably best known for their wacky awards.

In 1996, the onetime award best sandwich in a movie went to the ham and cheese sandwich in Smoke. The awards show, which launched in 1992, also memorably hands out a best kiss award, and viewers have come to expect a re-creation of said kiss by the winners while accepting their award (think Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s winning streak).

But onstage smooches aren’t the only reason that people tune in. Over the years, the show has gained a reputation for its anything-goes moments: Call it the Oscars' sillier, crazier second cousin.

The 25th annual MTV Movie Awards are set to take place on April 10 in Burbank on the Warner Bros. lot and will air the following night on MTV. Check out THR's guide to the show here, and below, take a look back at some of the more memorable moments from years past.

  • Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling re-enact "The Notebook" kiss

One of the most memorable moments in the show's history occurred when Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams won best kiss at the 2005 ceremony. The pair re-enacted their iconic kiss from The Notebook to the joy of fans everywhere.

  • "Would it kill you every once in a while to play a little Foghat?"

In 1999, Jim Carrey accepted the award for best male performance for his performance in The Truman Show. He gave his speech as a member scraggly-haired hippie — he hadn't told anyone of his plan, including MTV — and didn't even break character after the acceptance with presenter Janeane Garofalo, who said: "Afterwards when we were walking off, I tried to talk to him as Jim and he wasn’t having it."

  • Sarah Silverman jokes about Paris Hilton's jail sentence

With Paris Hilton's prison term looming, 2007 host Sarah Silverman made an off-color snipe that Hilton became visibly upset over. Silverman, who looked instantly sorry, admitted later that she regretted making the joke: "I went for it. But then I looked down and saw a man in her face with a camera."

  • James Franco and Seth Rogen smoke pot onstage

The director zoomed out to a wide shot and audience shots when Seth Rogen pulled a baggie of marijuana out of his pocket while he presented an award with James Franco. They also produced a joint and a lighter and smoked it on live TV.

  • When "The Golden Girls" parodied "Clueless"

Three of The Golden Girls reenacted some of Clueless' crassest oneliners (and plaid outfits!), with Estelle Getty as Cher, Betty White as Dionne, and Rue McClanahan as Tai.

  • Sacha Baron Cohen lands on Eminem

To promote the release of his movie Bruno, Sacha Baron Cohen came as the character to the 2009 Movie Awards, where he "flew" over the crowd on strings until he was dropped on top of Eminem, who stormed out shortly after. They revealed later that the stunt had been planned.

  • Aubrey Plaza tries to "Kanye" Will Ferrell

At the awards show in 2013, Aubrey Plaza approached the stage while Will Ferrell accepted his award for comedic genius of the year. She tried to take his popcorn trophy before giving up and returning to her seat, and reportedly was escorted out of the event shortly after.

  • Tom Cruise performs with Jennifer Lopez

Tom Cruise reprised his role as Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder for the 2010 Movie Awards. The actor danced to Ludacris' song "Get Back" before being joined onstage by J.Lo.
