THR's Women in Entertainment 2012: Power 100
As the captain of Relativity's production team, Brenner, 41, can take credit for putting together the company's eclectic slate, which includes one of the most killer ensembles in recent memory: The Peter Farrelly-helmed comedy Movie 43 boasts two Oscar winners (Halle Berry and Kate Winslet), a Jackass (Johnny Knoxville) and a Jackman (Hugh) as well as Richard Gere, Jason Sudeikis, Naomi Watts and Emma Stone. Outside of her Relativity duties, the married mother of two girls also pushed a passion project more than a decade in the making into production, the Matthew McConaughey AIDS drama Dallas Buyers Club, for which the actor lost nearly 40 pounds.
Moment I knew I wanted to work in the business: I was probably 7 or 8. I remember my father taking me to buy shoes, and the store had this hand-crank device that created moving images. I didn't want the shoes. I wanted to watch the little movies.
Who gave me my first big break: Meryl Poster. I'd been hired by Miramax in 1995 and was on the Dimension side of the company. She brought me over to work with her.
Toughest decision I had to make this year: Being part of a committee to greenlight Scott Cooper's Out of the Furnace. It's a movie that I definitely went out on a limb for and am very excited about.
Favorite way to unwind on the weekend: Horseback riding. It really takes me out of the moment.
Most surprising song on my iPod: Flo-Rida's "Wild Ones."
Proudest moment this year: When my oldest daughter, who is 7, told me, "I want to be smart and strong, just like you."
