5 Facts: 'Glee' 3-D Movie
The stars, songs and scoop on the big screen event.
The producers of the hit Fox show Glee announced plans to release Glee Live! 3D!, a film of the Glee concert tour. Below, five things to know:
1. It won’t be on screen for long!
Act fast, moviegoers: Glee Live! In Concert! hits screens starting Aug. 12, 2011 and will run exclusively for just two weeks (but if the film does well, its release time could always be extended).
2. It will feature 14 cast members – but probably not Sue Sylvester.
The pic will be shot live during the summer concerts, capturing both the concert and backstage moments with the characters, including Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowtiz, Mark Salling, Dianna Agron, Naya Rivera, Heather Morris, Harry Shum Jr., Chord Overstreet, Darren Criss, Ashley Fink and members of The Warblers. Cast members such as Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison have not been announced as part of the movie.
3. Songs by Journey and Britney Spears will be included.
Musical numbers that are set to be featured range from Britney Spears’ “I’m a Slave 4 U,” Pink’s “Raise Your Glass,” Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” and the Journey anthem “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
4. Ryan Murphy promises it’ll be a “cinematic experience.”
He says it will allow fans — or “Gleeks” -- who are unable to see the concert, or who want to see it again, to experience the show in the immersive 3D experience. “We knew that not every fan who wanted to attend a concert would get that opportunity,” he said. “Now, thanks to our friends at Twentieth Century Fox Film, we’ll be able to bring the concert experience to movie theaters across the country in full three dimensional glory. We promise every passionate ‘Gleek’ a cinematic experience that will have them singing and dancing in the aisles.”
5.The film's director helmed Mortal Kombat: Legacy.
Kevin Tancharoen has been tapped to direct the 3D movie. His previous credits include Fame and – shocker! -- Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Murphy will produce.
