ABC Family has set the leading ladies for Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich's comedy pilot Tough Cookie.

Awkward and Hot Mess alum Shoshana Bush will topline the comedy, reuniting with Iungerich in Tough Cookie, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. She'll co-star opposite Mixology and Blue Mountain State grad Frankie Shaw as well as young actress Mallory James Mahoney.

Picked up to pilot on Jan. 6, Tough Cookie is written and created by Iungerich. It centers on Lilla Spencer (Bush), a young mother who isn't ready to parent and her daughter, Eleanor (Mahoney, Sober Companion), who doesn't want to be parented.

Bush's Lilla is described as a strong-willed, self-centered publicist who is a skillfully manipulating her clients' images — basically she lies for a living — but who has a big secret: She got pregnant at a young age by a guy she loved, who dumped her, and gave up her baby girl for adoption so she wouldn't have to be reminded of him ever again. She learns her daughter is slated for another round of foster care unless Lilla gives her a chance in a three-day trial that neither of them is looking forward to.

Mahone's Eleanor is not the sweet girl that Lilla and her roommates had in mind. Having been in multiple foster homes, her cynical and precocious personality — she's exactly like her  birth mom — the youngster agrees to the trial and terrorizes Lilla's roomates, Heidi and Mickey, before bonding with her mother.

Shaw is set as Heidi, a dim-witted debutante supported by her parents who lives in Lilla's apartment with Mickey. She's supportive when she learns Lilla has a daughter and is ultimately freaked out after meeting Eleanor.

Single-camera entry comedy Tough Cookie marks Iungerich's first cable pilot following MTV's Hot Mess, which ultimately did not move forward after her exit. She'll reunite with Awkward collaborator David Janollari, with both executive producing the pilot. Iungerich also will direct the pilot.

Bush, who guest starred in one episode of Awkward in 2013, is repped by TalentWorks, Generate and Stone Meyer; Shaw is with ICM Partners; Mahoney is with Innovative and Prism Creative Management.
