ABC Family's Tori Spelling, Ashley Tisdale Comedies Get Series Orders
ABC Family is adding two comedy series to its scripted slate.
Mystery Girls, starring and produced by Beverly Hills, 90210 alums Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth, and Young & Hungry from producer Ashley Tisdale, have been greenlighted to series.
Production on both comedies begins in early 2014 in Los Angeles and will premiere later this year.
"It’s great to start the new year and my tenure at ABC Family with the pickup of these two funny original series. ABC Family’s comedy lineup continues to resonate with our audience and I’m thrilled to boost that momentum by adding Mystery Girls and Young & Hungry, which are sure to become fan favorites," said ABC Family president Tom Ascheim.
The series orders mark the first moves by Ascheim, who took over the president post from Michael Riley in December.
Mystery Girls centers on two former detective TV show starlets brought back together by a real-life mystery. Spelling and Garth star, along with newcomer Miguel Pinzon. Spelling, Garth and Maggie Malina serve as executive producers. The pilot was written by Shepard Boucher, from a story by Spelling and Boucher.
Young & Hungry follows a wealthy young tech entrepreneur who meets Gabi, a feisty young food blogger, looking to be his personal chef. Emily Osment, Jonathan Sadowski, Rex Lee, Aimee Carrero and Kym Whitley star in the series, with Annie Potts recurring. Eric Tannenbaum and Kim Tannenbaum executive produce with Jessica Rhoades and Tisdale. David Holden wrote the pilot and will also executive produce, while Gabi Moskowitz, a San Francisco food blogger, helped develop the project. CBS Television Studios and Relativity Television are behind Young & Hungry.
Mystery Girls and Young & Hungry join a comedy lineup that already includes Melissa & Joey and Baby Daddy.
ABC Family's Work Mom comedy pilot from Bunheads' Grant Levy and Dominik Rothbard and starring Renee Olstead is still in the mix.
