ABC Orders Full Seasons of 'The Goldbergs,' 'Trophy Wife'; 'Super Fun Night' Gets 4 More Episodes

Meanwhile, fellow freshman comedy "Back in the Game" will air its initial run despite an earlier order for two additional scripts.

ABC is firming up its comedy roster, picking up The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife for full seasons and ordering four additional episodes of Super Fun Night. Fellow freshman comedy Back in the Game will air its initial order despite an early order for two additional scripts. 

Adam F. Goldberg's 1980s-set semi-autobiographical comedy The Goldbergs is averaging 7.5 million total viewers and a 2.7 rating among adults 18-49 when factoring in Live+7 DVR viewing. Most recently, the Jeff Garlin-starrer from Sony Pictures Television drew a 1.7 rating on Tuesday, holding steady week over week without the benefit of a new episode of Agents of SHIELD.

The series, with Trophy Wife, are part of the network's all-new Tuesday lineup. The full-season orders for both Trophy Wife and The Goldbergs cement the entire block for the rest of the season. The Goldbergs' Sept. 24 premiere drew a 3.2 rating in the advertiser-coveted demo, ranking as ABC's best comedy launch in more than a year.

Trophy Wife, meanwhile, is averaging 5.7 million total viewers and a 1.9 rating when factoring in seven-day DVR data. The Malin Akerman comedy from ABC Studios is the lowest-rated of all of ABC's four new comedies but has the benefit of strong critical buzz. The series, like its lead-in, The Goldbergs, has found its groove and held its ground without the Marvel drama to open the night.

For the Tuesday comedies, the pickup comes two weeks after ABC picked up three additional scripts for the pair.

Wednesday comedy Super Fun Night, starring Rebel Wilson and exec produced by Warner Bros. Television-based Conan O'Brien, is averaging 7.4 million total viewers and a 2.8 in the demo when adding in seven-day DVR eyeballs. Redeveloped from CBS last year, the series launched with its second episode after unfavorable reviews for the pilot sent out to critics in May. The half hour has also failed to retain much of the lead-in from Emmy darling Modern Family.

Meanwhile, Back in the Game -- the semi-autobiographical comedy from brothers Mark and Robb Cullen and starring James Caan -- is averaging 7.2 million viewers and a 2.1 rating in the demo. Its September bow earned a 2.2 rating -- ABC's lowest comedy launch since 2009. The baseball comedy is also losing viewers from its lead-in, veteran comedy The Middle. ABC picked up two extra scripts of both Back in the Game and Super Fun Night on Oct. 22.

Meanwhile, ABC has comedy Mixology and dramas Mind Games, Killer Women and Resurrection on the bench.
