ABC Renews 'Dancing With the Stars'
ABC continued its wave of renewals Friday morning, officially announcing the pickup for The Middle and picking up its flagship reality competition series Dancing With the Stars for a 19th season.
Adopting a once-weekly format during the 2013-14 season, Dancing With the Stars' ratings losses are still apparent -- but have slowed. The two-hour Monday offering is averaging a solid 2.5 rating among adult 18-49 during its current cycle and has made efforts to freshen up the live telecast by bringing on alum Erin Andrews as Tom Bergeron's new co-host and playing with voting.
Another round was a given, and the show is already readying for another season of changes now that longtime showrunner Conrad Green is departing for Fox's Utopia. Veteran producer Rob Wade has come on board to fill his shoes for the now greenlit 19th season.
Dancing and The Middle join previously renewed shows Castle, Grey's Anatomy, Modern Family, Once Upon a Time, Revenge and Scandal as well as rookies Agents of SHIELD, The Goldbergs and Resurrection. The network on Thursday picked up five dramas and four comedies, while cancelling The Neighbors and freshman comedies Mixology and Trophy Wife.
More announcements are expected to come today. Keep track of what's new, renewed and canceled with THR's handy scorecard.
