'Agents of SHIELD' Bosses on "Emotionally Charged" Episode, 'Avengers' Possibilities

Will things ever be the same after the midseason finale?

Agents of SHIELD is ready for something big. Really big.

If you need evidence of that, look no further than the cast, who have been teasing series-altering events on Twitter.

As for what goes down and how, showrunners Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen are playing their cards very close to the vest. But they are able to tease one of the episode's major events — Skye (Chloe Bennet) finally meeting her father (Kyle MacLachlan).

"We've been building up to it and we knew it would be an emotionally charged scene," says Whedon.

Tancharoen credits writer Jeff Bell's handling of the script.

"He captured the strained father/daughter relationship of Skye hoping to meet the man she always wanted to meet," she says.

Whedon also tackles the possibility of an Avengers: Age of Ultron tie-in. Because, come on, that has to happen, right?

"We can't say, but it's always a possibility," Whedon says. Adds Tancharoen slyly: "As [Marvel TV Chief] Jeph Loeb says, 'it's all connected.' "

That's it for now, but stay tuned to THR's The Live Feed for a spoiler-filled postmortem following the episode, where we'll have much more from Whedon and Tancharoen.

Agents of SHIELD airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
