Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci Set Up Dramas at CBS, CW
For CBS, the "Sleepy Hollow" duo will team with Nick Santora for a Walter O'Brien drama, while the youth-skewing network has a sibling terrorism project.
Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, fresh off Sleepy Hollow's second-season renewal, have sold dramas to CBS and The CW.
The Fringe and Star Trek duo have earned a rich put pilot commitment from CBS for an untitled drama from Prison Break's Nick Santora. The hour, which is inspired by Walter O'Brien's life, has received a seven-figure penalty from the network.
The untitled drama centers on O'Brien's life and how the man with the fourth-highest documented IQ became a real-life Professor X and recruited the world's greatest intellects to his company, where they not only solve the world's most pressing and significant problems but also help each other learn to fit in and live in a world where being one in a billion can be as lonely as it sounds.
Santora (Lie to Me, Breakout Kings, Vegas) will pen the script and executive produce alongside K/O Paper Products' Kurtzman, Orci and banner president Heather Kadin. Justin Lin will also exec produce and direct the pilot. O'Brien is attached to executive produce. SB Films' Scooter Braun will also exec produce, Danny Rose is on board as a co-EP and Scott Manson will produce. Lin's Perfect Storm Entertainment partners Danielle Woodrow and Troy Craig Poon will co-exec produce and produce, respectively.
At The CW, meanwhile, an untitled sibling terrorist drama has received a script order. Corinne Brinkerhoff (The Good Wife) will pen the script and exec produce alongside Kurtzman, Orci and Kadin. Scripted World's Rob Golenberg (Betrayal) and Alon Aranya (Hostages) will also executive produce the drama about a young Brooklynite who is recruited by the CIA to infiltrate her recently discovered biological family, a wealthy and powerful Texas dynasty suspected of having criminal alliances across the globe.
The dramas mark the second and third sales this development season for Kurtzman and Orci, who in July moved K/O from 20th Century Fox Television to CBS Television Studios. In addition to Sleepy Hollow and Hawaii Five-0, the duo has high-concept drama Salvation in the works at CBS with Hawaii showrunner Peter Lenkov. The duo also is returning to write the next Star Trek feature.
Kurtzman and Orci (Fringe) are repped by CAA and Michael Gendler. Lin is with CAA and Jackie Eckhouse and John Sloss. Braun is with CAA and Karl Austen. Santora is repped by WME. Brinkerhoff, who is also under an overall deal with CBSTVS, is repped by UTA and LGNA.
