Amazon Greenlights Kids' Show from Ben Silverman's Electus
Live-action effort "Maker Shack Agency" continues the retail giant's push into original content.
Amazon Studios continues its push into the kids' market.
The original movie and series production arm of the online retail giant has greenlighted a pilot titled Maker Shack Agency from Ben Silverman’s Electus. The effort follows the exploits of 13-year-old inventor Angus Wolfe, aka “Wolfie,” and his two best friends and fellow “makers,” Jo and Merle, in Akron, Ohio.
The three teens will solve their clients' problems by making a new invention every episode. Research and development company Applied Minds -- along with their scientists, engineers and programmers -- will design gadgets that will be featured in the show.
“With Maker Shack Agency, we hope to inspire kids to think about new and different ways to solve life’s problems and to never be afraid of failure — as Wolfie always says, ‘Fail Forward,’” Electus' COO and head of digital Drew Buckley said in a statement announcing the news Tuesday. The project is Electus’ first initiative with the streaming service.
The news comes just weeks after Amazon announced it had ordered another five new kids pilots, including Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street, Grid Smasher, Hard-Boiled Eggheads, The Jo B. & G. Raff Show, and Wishenpoof! The pilots will be available on Amazon Instant Video early next year, at which point customers will be able to provide feedback via the service's crowd-sourcing policy.
Amazon Studios' first batch of 14 pilots launched in April 2013, with five projects (Alpha House, Betas, Annebots, Creative Galaxy and Tumble Leaf) since ordered to series with the aid of subscriber input.
