Amazon Studios has bought a pitch for a half-hour comedy TV series called LA82.

The series would center on a misfit gang of schlock filmmakers who storm the gates of Hollywood in the early '80s.

Jeffery Blitz and Mac Carter, known as an award-winning commercial directing team, will write and executive produce the show. RatPac Entertainment’s Brett Ratner and John Cheng also will executive produce in their first project with Amazon.

Along with their work together, Blitz and Carter have a slew of individual accomplishments. Blitz directed episodes of NBC's The Office and Parks & Recreation and won the 2009 Emmy for outstanding director for a comedy series for The Office. He also was nominated for an Academy Award for his documentary Spellbound. Blitz most recently helmed upcoming Fox Searchlight comedy Table 19, starring Anna Kendrick, which will be released in 2016. He is repped by UTA.

Carter made his feature directing debut with Haunt, a 2014 horror-mystery film released by IFC Midnight. He is repped by David Colden.

While Ratpac's film side has the current docudrama Truth and upcoming Western The Revenant, the company also is executive producing a pair of TV shows: Warner Bros. TV's Rush Hour series for CBS and Fox's The Divine Monster. RatPac is repped by WME.

Amazon's TV series include the popular and Golden Globe-winning Transparent and The Man in the High Castle.
