AMC Gives Series Order to 'Low Winter Sun'
UPDATED: Mark Strong and Lennie James star in the drama from executive producer Chris Mundy.
AMC has picked up Low Winter Sun to series.
Based on the 2006 British miniseries from Simon Donald, Low Winter Sun is a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred. The drama kicks off with the murder of a cop by a Detroit detective.

Season one of the AMC Studios/Endemol Studios production will consist of 10 hourlong episodes and co-stars Mark Strong, who starred in the British mini, and Lennie James. Executive producer Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds) will serve as showrunner on the drama, with Jeremy Gold and Greg Brenman also exec producing.
“Endemol and Chris Mundy have produced a beautiful pilot with an incredible cast led by the insanely talented Mark Strong,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s executive vp original programming, production and digital content. “We’re thrilled to be moving forward with this compelling and intense new drama and look forward to returning to Detroit for production on the first season."

In May, the cable network moved forward with a pilot order for Low Winter Sun, which marks the network's second co-production with Endemol following Western drama Hell on Wheels -- which was picked up for a third season with a new showrunner. In November, The Hollywood Reporter reported that AMC -- and Netflix -- was eyeing a deal to bring back The Killing for a season three after the net canceled it earlier this year.
AMC notes that the untitled Richard LaGravenese and Tony Goldwyn drama pilot is still under consideration for series pickup net year.
