Set at an East Coast asylum for the criminally insane, the upcoming season revolves around Jessica Lange's new character -- a nun -- and her boss at the institution, played by James Cromwell.
Details on Duvall's role, like many others for the new round of Horror Story, are being kept under wraps but she's expected to share scenes opposite returning cast member Sarah Paulson.

Duvall, whose breakout role came in 1999's lesbian cult fave But I'm a Cheerleader, joins a cast that includes Chris Zylka, Joseph Fiennes, Chloe Sevigny, The Voice's Adam Levine, Mark Consuelos and newcomer Lizzie Brochere round out the cast. Other returning cast members set to play new roles include Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters and Lily Rabe.
The casting comes a day after the freshman run tied with Mad Men for a leading 17 Emmy nominations, including mentions for Lange and Season 1 stars Connie Britton, Denis O'Hare and Frances Conroy. Paulson also picked up a mention for her role in HBO's telepic Game Change.
Duvall is repped by Gersh and Framework Entertainment.
TV Line first reported the news.
Season 2 returns in the fall on FX.
