'Amish Mafia': New Discovery Channel Series to Launch in December
The crime-themed reality show, set in Pennsylvania's Lancaster County, premieres Dec. 12.
Discovery Channel will unveil a new reality series dubbed Amish Mafia next month.
The network announced Tuesday that the series -- spotlighting the "men who protect and maintain peace and order within the Amish community" in Pennsylvania's Lancaster County -- will premiere Dec. 12 at 9 p.m. ET. Discovery will air a sneak peek on Dec. 11 (10:30 ET).
Amish Mafia's peacekeepers, wary of outside law enforcement, were called to action following the 2006 murders of five Amish girls by a non-Amish gunman.
"This is a side of Amish society that exists under the radar, and the Amish church denies the group’s existence," according to Discovery. The series "provides eyewitness accounts of the incidents, misdeeds and wrongdoings within the Amish community ... . To protect participants and their family members, some identifying information and property has been changed. Some scenes have been reenacted."
Amish Mafia is produced by Hot Snakes Media, and executive produced by Eric and Shannon Evangelista along with Discovery's Dolores Gavin and Matt Kelly.
