Anthony Anderson to Host ABC's Rebooted 'To Tell the Truth'

Betty White, NeNe Leakes will serve as panelists on the six-episode series.

Following early success with Celebrity Family Feud, ABC is rebooting another classic game show: To Tell the Truth.

The network has tapped Black-ish star Anthony Anderson to host the six-episode series, which will feature panelists Betty White and NeNe Leakes, among others to be announced.

The new series is described as an anarchic and funny reimagination of the original series that ran for more than 20 seasons on broadcast networks and in syndication across six decades.

FremantleMedia North America will produce the series, which will feature fun characters from pop culture. Anderson will preside over four famous faces — including White, who also appeared on the older series — and Leakes. The four, with the other two panelists still to be announced, will be presented with three people who all claim to be the same person with the same incredible talent, job or achievement. One is sworn to tell the truth while the others aren't. The panel of celebrities will have a chance to grill each participant before taking turns deciding who they think is telling the truth.

Anderson's mother, Doris, will be the official scorekeeper and ask questions of her own. The celebrity panelist who performs the worst will have to tweet a lie about themselves to the world. Cheche and his Band of Liars will serve as the house band, and each episode will end with a show-stopping stunt or performance.

The series will be taped in front of a live audience. Barry Poznick, Toby Gorman, Thom Beers, Jeff Gaspin, George Moll and Anderson will exec produce.

The move comes as game shows have been making a resurgence as networks struggle to launch new out-of-the-box unscripted fare in the wake of American Idol and The Voice's declining ratings. ABC launched Celebrity Family Feud — hosted by Steve Harvey — on June 21 to stellar returns, with a 2.4 rating among adults under 50 and 8.5 million total viewers. The network also recently revived Battle Bots, which opened with a similarly strong return.
