Anthony LaPaglia to Star in CBS' Nikki Toscano Terrorism Drama
The "Without a Trace" alum will return to the network to star in the pilot.
Anthony LaPaglia is returning to CBS.
Following his seven-season turn on the network's Without a Trace, the actor has landed the starring role in CBS' untitled Nikki Toscano/Kerry Ehrin terrorism drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Known as Red Zone, the drama centers on retired CIA operative-turned-high school football coach who is pulled back into action after a terrorist event rocks Washington, D.C., and he's forced to investigate closer to home, where the next generation of terrorists are being bred.
LaPaglia will star as Coach Holden Weller, the coach/athletic director in Virginia whose commitment to his job nearly cost him his family. The role brings him back into the CBS fold five years after Without a Trace wrapped its run. LaPaglia earned a Golden Globe win for best actor for his portrayal of Jack Malone. The role also earned him an Emmy and two SAG Award nominations. Repped by ICM, Industry and Edelstein Laird, his credits also include an Emmy-winning guest stint on Frasier as well as Happy Hour, Lantana and Empire Records.
Toscano (Revenge) will pen the script and executive produce the pilot for Universal Television and CBS Television Studios. Bates Motel co-showrunner Ehrin is on board as a consultant. James Foley will direct the pilot. Shanley Caswell and Dexter's Aimee Garcia co-star.
