'Arrested Development' Alum Alia Shawkat to Star in Jax Media Comedy

Jax Media is starting production on their first self-funded pilot presentation, a comedy titled Search Party starring Arrested Development’s Alia Shawkat.

Created by Sarah-Violet BlissCharles Rogers and Michael Showalter, the show will focus on a group of four self-absorbed 20-somethings that come together when a former college acquaintance mysteriously disappears. Search Party, which will begin shooting in New York this summer, features an ensemble of young comic actors that includes John Early, John Reynolds and Meredith Hagner.

The comedy is written and directed by Bliss and Rogers, whose feature film Fort Tilden won the grand jury award at SXSW Film Festival 2014. The pair most recently wrote on Amazon’s Mozart In the Jungle and Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.

Showalter (Wet Hot American Summer)Lilly Burns (Broad City) and Jax Media president Tony Hernandez will serve as executive producers on the show, with John Skidmore and Brittney Segal serving as producers.

In addition to Chris Rock’s critically acclaimed film Top Five, Jax Media's recent TV productions include Comedy Central’s Broad City and Inside Amy Schumer, TV Land’s Younger and Bravo’s Odd Mom Out.

Shawkat's other credits include Getting On and Whip It. She is repped by UTA, MGMT Entertainment and Lichter Grossman.
