'Awkward's' Beau Mirchoff to Co-Star in 'Wizards of Waverly Place' Special (Exclusive)
He'll play Dominic, a handsome and mysterious heartthrob who may not be as sweet as he seems in the Selena Gomez Disney Channel telepic.
Beau Mirchoff is going from MTV to Disney Channel.
The Awkward star has booked the co-lead in the network's Wizards of Waverly Place special, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Announced in September, Selena Gomez will reprise her role as Alex in the TV movie, in which the Russo family and friends head to Tuscany, Italy, to meet their long-lost relatives. When Alex (Gomez) attempts to prove she's more than a carefree young wizard, she inadvertently conjures a spell that creates a "good" Alex and an "evil" one.
When she's roped into a charming young wizard's foreboding plan to take over the world, Alex must find a way to save her family and humankind, which leads to a battle between the two versions of herself on the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

Mirchoff will play Dominic, a handsome and mysterious wizard who may not be as sweet as he seems. Wizards' Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone, Maria Canals-Barrera, David DeLuise and Gregg Sulkin will reprise their role in the telepic, which will launch on Disney Channel in early 2013.
The Wizards of Waverly Place series wrapped Jan. 6 after a four-season run on Disney Channel. The finale was the franchise's most-watched episode, with nearly 10 million viewers tuning in. A telefilm titled Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie aired in August 2009.
The new TV movie is written by Vince Cheung, Ben Montanio and Dan Berendsen. Gomez, Cheung, Dan Cross and David Hoge are EPs. Victor Gonzalez will direct.Wizards of Waverly Place was created by Todd J. Greenwald.

The role comes after the actor received a 2012 Teen Choice Award for TV breakout star for his role as Matty on MTV's Awkward, which has been renewed for a supersized third season.
Mirchoff and his Awkward co-star Brett Davern (Jake) also recently boarded the feature Born to Race 2.
