'The Bachelor' Recap: Belize and a Black Widow
Ben Flajnik goes on three one-on-one dates, and the women continue to try to warn him about the bad intentions of contestant Courtney.
The Bachelor’s Ben has only six women left this week, and stakes are higher than ever because next week will be the hometown dates.
Last week, one woman left early after Chris Harrison called her out for still being in love with her ex, and Ben had his first two-on-one date, forcing him to send Blakely home at the end of the date.
[Warning: Spoilers ahead.]
This week, Ben and the contestants are in beautiful Belize. “The feelings of love are there,” Ben says. Four of the six women will receive roses.
This week, there will be three one-on-one dates and roses will not be given out on those dates. There will also be one group date, and a rose will be up for grabs at that event.
The first date goes to Lindzi, who has been a front-runner in the competition since she got the first impression rose on the very first night.
Ben, always one to challenge his potential soulmates, makes Lindzi jump out of a helicopter with him into the beautiful blue water. In the evening portion of the date, they talk about how every date has gotten better and better. They write a story in a bottle and send it out into the sea.
Back at the house, Emily gets the second one-on-one date, and controversial contestant Courtney is not happy. "I want to kill myself. Worse nightmare,” she says, crying to the cameras.
Emily and Ben ride bikes in town and then go diving for lobster. Lobster hunting is apparently much harder than expected. Ben does miraculously catch one, as does Emily. During the evening portion of the date, Emily invites Ben to officially come to her hometown.
Back at the house, Courtney is upset that she hasn’t gotten a one-on-one date in quite some time. She’s beginning to lose faith in Ben, and tells the cameras she may not want to bring Ben home to her family. Tears.
But there’s nothing to worry about because Courtney is given the next date card. “He's a smart boy. He listens,” she says in her excitement.
Kacie B. is not excited for Courtney, and tells the cameras, "It took every freaking fiber of my being to not spring across the room and punch her in the face." She also points to the palm of her hand, pretending that Courtney is “a black widow” on it, and then smacks her hands together, squishing the bug.
Courtney and Ben head to a Mayan temple. They climb for a while, but Courtney is purely focused on making sure Ben is worshipping her. She talks about how upset she was that Emily was on a one-on-one date with him. "I'm not going to bring someone home if I don't know where we're at," she says. She claims she isn’t feeling a “spark.”
Ben tries to console her. “I want a woman with a little bit of edge. I want someone that's a little bit weird,” he says, adding that he thinks she’s very unique.
They climb the rest of the way up the temple, and Courtney says she feels the spark is back.
Later they go to dinner, and talk about soul mates. "I pictured you in my life. I did,” Ben said of his feeing while there were at the top of the temple. “It was a crazy moment of clarity.”
Courtney also says vile things about most of the women in the house. “They're just so vanilla and very into themselves,” she says.
Ben admits that he’s concerned that she isn’t getting along with the other women. “One of my fears is being with a woman who I like, but ultimately, other people don't,” Ben tells the camera.
Kacie, Rachel and Nicki go on the group date with Ben. Ben wakes them up at the crack of dawn for a swim in Shark Alley.
Rachel is very nervous about the whole thing, which ends up being a perfect move strategically because Ben sticks by her side for most of the time.
Each of the girls later gets some private time with Ben. Kacie opens up to Ben and tells him she’d like him to come home with her. Kacie is given the rose, securing her hometown date. The girls also take a moment to warn Ben about Courtney. “Tread lightly," says Kacie.
The Rose Ceremony
Chris Harrison tells the women that there won’t be a cocktail party before the rose ceremony. Courtney is confident going into the ceremony. “I'm ready to get rid of some girls. See ya, wouldn't want to be ya,” she says to the cameras.
But before he begins to hand out the roses, Ben asks to speak to Courtney privately. He asks her if she’s really in this.
“The only reason I'm here is for you. I wasn't here to win these girls over and make friends,” she says. “I don't want you to question me at all. I've been nothing but honest and open."
They return to the rose ceremony, and Ben gives roses to Nicki, Lindzi… and Courtney.
Rachel and Emily are sent home.
The four remaining women will take Ben to their hometowns.
