Medical Drama From 'ER' Grad Neal Baer Lands Fox Pilot Order
ER writer Neal Baer is scrubbing back in with a new medical drama.
Fox has handed out a pilot order to The Beast, from Baer and Law & Order: SVU writer Dawn DeNoon, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Each week of the project will see three challenging medical cases. In the end, two will live and one will die. Their doctor — with a clinical fear of death —never stops fighting the odds.
Baer and DeNoon will executive produce with Jessica Shulman. The Beast will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television in association with Baer Bones.
The medical world is familiar territory for Baer, a former pediatrician. After writing and eventually executive producing ER, he went on to serve as showrunner of Law & Order: SVU for more than a decade. His recent credits include another medical drama, CBS' A Gifted Man, and, more recently, the TV adaptation of Under the Dome.
This is Fox's seventh drama project for the 2017-2018 season, joining pilots Behind Enemy Lines, Controversy, The Resident — also a medical drama — The Passage and Matt Nix's untitled X-Men drama, as well as Seth MacFarlane's Orville, which already has earned a straight-to-series order.
