Fox's Lee Daniels drama pilot has cast its male lead.

Private Practice alum Benjamin Bratt is set to topline the music drama formerly known as Star, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Written, created and directed by Empire's Daniels, the drama centers on three young women (Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny, Brittany O'Grady) who form a girl group with hopes of making it big in the industry, and the choices they face along the way to success and stardom.

Bratt will star as Jahil, a talent manager with taste, a hidden life and drive for redemption who believes his new client Star (Demorest) and her group are his ticket back to the top.

Queen Latifah is set as the female lead, Carlotta, a former client and flame of Jahil's who now owns an Atlanta beauty salon and serves as a surrogate mother to the three girls.

Tom Donaghy (The Whole Truth) co-created the drama and is on board to write and executive produce. Pamela Oas Williams (Lee Daniels' The Butler) and Effie Brown (Dear White People) also serve as exec producers. The pilot, which is produced by 20th TV and is the first under Daniels' overall deal with the studio, begins production this month in Atlanta.

For Bratt, the role brings him back to both Fox, where he previously co-starred in the network's 24: Live Another Day revival, and 20th TV, where he continues to recur on the studio's Modern Family. He's repped by WME, Circle of Confusion and Myman Greenspan.
