Billy Eichner to Write First Book (Exclusive)
A version of this story first appeared in the July 25 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.
Billy Eichner (WME, 3 Arts) can now add "author" to his rapidly growing résumé.
The Emmy-nominated Billy on the Street creator/host has signed a deal to pen his first book — an as-yet-untitled comedic take on Hollywood and pop culture, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. A release date has not yet been determined for the book, which will be published by Hachette Book Group USA division Grand Central Publishing.
Eichner, who has been recurring on NBC's Parks and Recreation in addition to his Fuse game show, has built a reputation for an outrageous brand of screaming comedy. His Funny or Die-produced game show regularly features the comedian creating unique games that involve amusing rants and yelling at both strangers and celebrities.
"I'm very excited to start writing, and I can assure my fans they will love the book more than Shailene Woodley loves Tom's of Maine. This book is for anyone obsessed with show business, pop culture, social media and lots of other fun topics that fill our days as we hurtle helplessly toward accidents, illness, infidelity and death," Eichner said.
STORY Billy Eichner to Star in USA Comedy From Amy Poehler (Exclusive)
The book comes as Eichner continues to see his Hollywood star rise. He's teaming with Amy Poehler and Billy on the Street head writer Julie Klausner for the USA Network pilot presentation Difficult People. Eichner and Klausner will co-star in the scripted comedy as frustrated comedians and pop-culture-loving best friends in NYC.
Meanwhile, a fourth season of Billy on the Street is likely, though a formal announcement is premature, Funny or Die said.
Grand Central executive editor Ben Greenberg acquired the book.
