'The Blacklist' Kills Off Two Major Characters in Bloody Midseason Finale
[WARNING: Spoilers ahead from Monday's episode of The Blacklist, "The Decembrist."]
It was the end of the road for a slew of unlucky folks in Monday's bloodbath of a midseason finale on NBC's The Blacklist.
The show killed off two main characters in the episode, tied up a big loose end involving Tom and Liz, and revealed a surprise that could irreparably damage Red (James Spader) and Liz's relationship.
The episode centered on Red helping Berlin (Peter Stormare) track down the person known only as The Decembrist, who hid Berlin's daughter from him.
Berlin shoots Russia's finance minister in an elevator after he reveals that the mystery man is Alan Fitch (Alan Alda). "Call the florist," Red says coolly as they leave the corpse behind. The scene is yet another incentive to always take the stairs.
Fitch is kidnapped by Berlin's men and returns wearing an explosive necklace. He is in the process of telling Red about a safe in St. Petersburg when his body explodes. Clearly, the janitor deserves a raise.
Meanwhile, a member of the Coast Guard finds out that Liz is keeping Tom hostage, so Tom kills him. Apparently, Liz and Tom subscribe to our own personal motto: What happens on a boat stays on a boat. Red later shoots and kills Berlin after they share a bottle of vodka.
In the final scene, Red meets with Tom and gives him an envelope, telling him he can never see Liz again. Tom informs Red that he never said one word to Liz about his deal (!) with Red. But we'll sadly have to wait until the next new episode, in February, to see how all this gets resolved.
What did you think of the episode? Should Fitch have tried harder to squeeze his head out of the bomb? And would you ever be willing to share a bottle of vodka with Red? Let us know in the comments!
