Bobby Moynihan to Voice Title Character in Syfy Drama 'Happy!'
Bobby Moynihan has lined up another small-screen gig.
The longtime Saturday Night Live castmember, who recently signed on for a CBS comedy pilot, is slated to voice the title character in the Syfy drama pilot Happy!, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Based on the New York Times best-selling graphic novel written by Grant Morrison (Batman, The Invisibles), Happy! centers on Nick Sax (Christopher Meloni) — an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man — who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. Once a rock-star detective for a major metropolitan police force, Nick lost it all. Now he's a broken, down-and-out hired killer who makes just enough money to support a steady diet of booze, drugs and sarcasm by carrying out hits for the mob. After a hit gone wrong, Nick's life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue-winged horse.
Moynihan will voice Happy the Horse, a goofy little blue unicorn with a relentlessly cheerful personality. Paired with Nick Sax, the two make for an extremely oddball duo.
The cast also includes Lili Mirojnick, Patrick Fischler, Ritchie Coster and Zabryna Guevara.
Morrison wrote the pilot with Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer), the latter of whom will also direct. The two will exec produce with Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Toby Jaffe of Original Film (The Fast and the Furious). The project hails from Universal Cable Productions.
Moynihan is currently performing on SNL, where he's become known for characters like Drunk Uncle and impressions of real-life figures like New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. However, his future on the show has come into question since he signed on to star in the CBS half-hour Me, Myself & I. If the project is picked up to series, he would exit SNL.
His other voice roles include Disney Channel's DuckTales reboot and The Secret Life of Pets. He is repped by UTA, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.
