'Body of Proof' Alum to Topline CBS Genius Drama 'Scorpion'
UPDATED: Elyes Gabel will star in the drama based on the life of Walter O'Brien from exec producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
CBS' Scorpion has found its genius.
Body of Proof alum Elyes Gabel will topline Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci's genius drama Scorpion, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Based on the life of Walter O'Brien, the drama revolves around an eccentric genius and his international network of super-geniuses who form the last line of defense against the complex threats of the modern age.
O'Brien, who will produce, goes by the hacker name of Scorpion and serves as CEO of ScorpionComputerServices.com, a global think tank for any funded problems. The show is centered on O'Brien's life and how he recruited and trained other geniuses from around the world to save lives and solve problems, from casino security to military drone warfare. Together, the geniuses have learned to help one another round out their personalities in order to better fit in and provide a greater benefit to society than they could working alone.
Gabel will play Walter/Scorpion, the eccentric genius who leads a team of other like-minded individuals tasked with out-thinking the masterminds who want to bring the country to its knees. Robert Patrick co-stars as a federal agent who has a history with Walter.
Repped by Paradigm, Troika and Brillstein Entertainment, Gabel's credits include World War Z, Body of Proof, Game of Thrones as well as BBC medical drama Casualty.
Nick Santora and Nicholas Wootton (Golden Boy) will pen the CBS Television Studios script and executive produce alongside Justin Lin, K/O Paper Products' Kurtzman, Orci and Heather Kadin. SB Productions' Scooter Braun will exec produce alongside co-EP Danny Rose and producer Scott Manson. Lin will direct the pilot. Danielle Woodrow will co-exec produce and Troy Craig Poon will produce via Lin's Perfect Storm Entertainment banner.
