'Book of Mormon' Star Lands Lead in NBC Comedy From 'Glee' Duo
Andrew Rannells would play one of the three stars in the blended family comedy from Ryan Murphy and Ali Adler should the project receive a pilot order.
Andrew Rannells could be going from Broadway to NBC.
The Book of Mormon Tony nominee has inked a talent deal with 20th Television and NBC that would see him star in the untitled blended family comedy from Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy and his new Season 3 scribe Ali Adler.
The single-camera project, described as a comedy about a gay couple and the woman who becomes their surrogate as they start a family, landed at the network with a significant penalty commitment after a multiple network bidding war.
Murphy and Adler are exec producing and penning 20th Television the script for the project alongside Dante Di Loreto, who also produces Murphy's FX horror anthology American Horror Story. Murphy will direct the pilot should it move forward. A decision on the status of the project is expected soon.
Rannells and his Book of Mormon co-star, Josh Gad, each earned Tony nominations for their roles in the Broadway production. The theater veteran, whose credits also include Hairspray and Jersey Boys, will also guest star on HBO's upcoming Lena Dunham comedy Girls.
