Brendan Fraser Exits TNT Pilot 'Legends,' Near Development Deal With Fox 21
The amicable split was a mutual decision and came after the "Mummy" star and producers cited creative differences over the direction of his character. The Howard Gordon drama will move forward once the role is recast.
Brendan Fraser isn't heading to TV so soon after all.
The Mummy actor has parted ways with TNT's Howard Gordon drama pilot Legends, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Citing creative differences with showrunner Gordon, Fraser signed on to Legends to play a deep-cover operative named Martin Odum, who has an uncanny ability to transform himself into a different person for each job. Fraser's exit from the Fox 21 effort is decribed as an amicable split.
"Brendan is an incredible actor and we have wanted to work with him for a very long time," Fox 21 president Bert Salke said in a statement. "While this particular project may not have been the right fit, we are excited to develop cable properties with him that will showcase his amazing talent."
Legends will move forward once the lead role of Martin is recast. Fraser, meanwhile, is in talks for a development deal with studio Fox 21.
Homeland executive producer Gordon, Jeffrey Nachmanoff (The Day After Tomorrow), Alexander Cary (Homeland) and Jonathan Levin (Charmed) developed the project based on the book from spy novelist Robert Littell. David Semel will direct and executive produce the Fox 21 entry.
Fraser was cast two weeks ago in the pilot, which would have marked his first regular small-screen role.
