Cable Notes: New Series at OWN, MTV, A&E, More
Plus premiere dates and cast additions for BET's "The Game," "Let's Stay Together," "All Things Fall Apart," Lifetime's "24 Hour Catwalk" and NGC's "Ultimate Factories."
OWN, MTV and A&E announced new series Thursday, while Lifetime, National Geographic Channel and BET scheduled premiere dates for new and returning series.
At Oprah Winfrey's OWN, the upstart cable net announced the addition of Party at Tiffany's, a six-episode series about girls' party planner Tiffany Young. The half-hour series will bow with back-to-back episodes on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 10 p.m. following the midseason finale of Welcome to Sweetie Pie's. John Morayniss, Michael Kot and Tara Long will executive produce the series from Entertainment One.
On MTV, the music-themed network will premiere new docuseries Caged, about a group of young adults in small-town Louisiana struggling to find their way after graduation from high school, on Monday, Jan. 9 at 10 p.m. While their lives are filled with uncertainty, there's one thing that serves as a brightspot: cage fighting. The series will delve into the MMA world of passionate amateur fighters and the women in their lives. Joe Fincioen and Biagio Messina of Joke Productions will executive produce alongside MTV's Dave Sirulnick and Amy Bailey. The series hails from
A&E, meanwhile, will launch Shipping Wars, a 10-episode half-hour series revolving around teams of independent heavy-duty moving companies bidding for the chance to transport unshippable items. From oversized loads to bulky packages and bizarre items, the series will premiere with back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 9:30 p.m. Produced by Megalomedia for A&E, Jonathan Nowzaradan will executive produce alongside the network's David McKillop, Elaine Frontain Bruant and Neil A. Cohen. Tim Mireles, Jeff Keels and Graham Davidson will serve as co-EPs.
Over at BET, the network's ratings record-breaker The Game announced it was adding Grammy winner Brandy Norwood to its cast for its fifth season, which will bow Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 10 p.m. The new season will also see the return of PJ Byrne and Gabrielle Dennis, as well as guest stars including Shawn Marion, Estelle, Selita Ebanks, DeRay Davis, Nene Leakes, Rockmond Dunbar and Loretta Devine, among others. … Sophomore series Let's Stay Togegther, starring Naddine Ellis and Bert Belasco will premiere the same night at 10:30 p.m. … The net's original movie All Things Fall Apart, starring Ray Liotta and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson, will premiere Saturday, Dec. 3 at 9:30 p.m.
In addition, National Geographic Channel will bow returning series Ultimate Factories on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. when it takes an inside look at how Porsche builds its first four-door high-performance sports sedan.
At Lifetime, the female-skewing net will premiere freshman fashion competition series 24 Hour Catwalk, featuring style icon Alexa Chung, on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 10 p.m.
