CBS Orders Full Seasons of 'Vegas' and 'Elementary'

CBS has lined up its first back-nine orders of the season. After delivering the first cut of the fall to underperforming dramedy Made in Jersey, the network has handed out full-season orders to Vegas and Elementary.

“Vegas and Elementary have opened strong, delivering big audiences and winning performances in important time periods,” said CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler. ”Each of the shows has rich characters, big stars and a unique visual style that have stood out in the crowd, helping make two of our strongest nights even stronger.”

The 10 p.m. dramas -- Vegas airs on Tuesday, Elementary on Thursday -- have been performing consistently in the ratings since their September debuts.

Vegas, a high-concept period drama starring Dennis Quaid, opened to a so-so 2.5 rating with adults 18-49 and nearly 15 million viewers. Subsequent weeks have seen the demo rating steady with a 2.0, while it has continued to fare much better in total viewers and see boosts in Live+7 returns, averaging 14.9 million viewers and a 2.7 rating with 18-49-ers.

Elementary has been much stronger in the demo. The contemporary New York update of Sherlock Holmes starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu opened to a robust 3.1 rating among adults 18-49 and 13.4 million on Sept. 27, easily winning its period. In Live+7, the series is averaging 14.3 million viewers and a 3.5 rating in adults 18-49.

With Vegas and Elementary both picked up and Made in Jersey already off the schedule, the only series whose future is still a question is the low-rated Monday comedy Partners.
