CBS to Pay Tribute to Mary Tyler Moore With Primetime Special
CBS is paying homage to longtime network star Mary Tyler Moore.
Hours after the legendary actress' death, the network on Wednesday announced that an hourlong special, Mary Tyler Moore: Love Is All Around, will air Thursday at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Oprah Winfrey will be among the newsmakers and other admirers interviewed for the special, which will be anchored by CBS This Morning's Gayle King. The telecast will examine Moore's impact on women and television, as well as her work outside Hollywood. Susan Zirinsky will serve as senior executive producer of the special.
Mary Tyler Moore: Love Is All Around replaces previously scheduled episodes of Mom and Life in Pieces. Subsequently, a rerun of Mom will move to 8:30 p.m. and replace The Great Indoors, and CBS also will air a repeat of The Big Bang Theory at 8 p.m.
Moore, whose eponymous series ran on CBS for seven years, died Wednesday at the age of 80.
Her time on the network, however, extended far beyond The Mary Tyler Moore Show. She also starred on CBS' The Dick Van Dyke Show, Mary and New York News.
“Mary Tyler Moore was a once-in-a-generation talent,” CBS chairman Leslie Moonves said in a statement. “She will be long remembered as a gifted actress, television pioneer and a role model to so many. CBS has lost one of the very best to ever grace our airwaves and our industry has lost a true legend and friend.”
CBS also paid tribute to Moore on Wednesday, airing a short video of the Emmy winner from her Mary Tyler Moore Show days at the start of the network's primetime programming.
Additionally, SundanceTV announced a Mary Tyler Moore marathon Saturday to pay tribute to the late actress. All 24 episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore's seventh and final season will air back-to-back beginning Saturday at 6 a.m.
PBS will also re-air the 2015 documentary about the TV legend, Mary Tyler Moore: A Celebration, which features interviews with Dick Van Dyke, Betty White and Valerie Harper, among others. The docu will be broadcast on PBS SoCal KOCE on Sunday at 7 p.m.
