Charles Grodin Signs on for ABC's Bernie Madoff Drama

The Emmy winner will play entrepreneur and philanthropist Carl Shapiro.

ABC's Bernie Madoff drama continues to add to its impressive roster.

Charles Grodin has signed on for Madoff, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Inspired by ABC News' chief investigative correspondent Brian Ross' book The Madoff Chronicles: Inside the Secret World of Bernie and Ruth, the miniseries will chronicle the rise and fall of Madoff. The former stockbroker and financier was convicted of fraud in 2009 in a Ponzi scheme that is considered to be the largest financial fraud in U.S. history.

The Emmy winner will play entrepreneur and philanthropist Carl Shapiro. Shapiro had invested with him as far back as the '60s and was one of Madoff's biggest backers. He and his Carl and Ruth Shapiro Foundation, reportedly lost $550 million in Madoff's ponzi scheme.

Grodin joins a cast that includes Richard DreyfussBlythe DannerLewis Black, Frank WhaleyErin Cummings and Tom Lipinski.

Raymond De Felitta (City Island) will direct the multi-episode drama, which is being written by Ben Robbins (The First 48). Linda Berman (Heat Wave, The Assets) and Joe Pichirallo (Hollywoodland) are on board to executive produce for ABC. The drama is currently in production; an exact episode count has not yet been revealed.

Grodin's credits include the Beethoven franchise, Midnight Run and most recently a recurring role on Louie. He is repped by Paradigm.
