CNN Jumps on Hillary Clinton Bandwagon With New Doc
With a TV miniseries and a big-screen scripted version of the former first lady's life already in the works, CNN Films commissions a documentary.
Hillary Clinton, already the subject of two scripted projects in the works, will now get the documentary treatment as well. CNN Films has commissioned a feature-length documentary about the former first lady and secretary of state. The film is from Oscar-winning director Charles Ferguson (Inside Job) and is currently in preproduction. It's targeted for a 2014 premiere and will have a theatrical run prior to its debut on CNN.
Meanwhile, NBC on Saturday announced Hillary with Diane Lane in the title role. And screenwriter Young Il Kim and director James Ponsoldt (The Spectacular Now) are working on the big-screen Rodham, which will center on Clinton as a young lawyer on the committee involved in President Richard Nixon's impeachment as well as her early relationship with Bill Clinton.
NBC's Hillary miniseries will likely air prior to the former New York senator's presumed announcement that she will run for president in 2016. The project is from writer and director Courtney Hunt (Frozen River) and will recount Clinton's life as a wife, mother, politician and cabinet member from 1998 to the present. The script will begin with Clinton living in the White House as her husband is serving his second presidential term. It will include her likely run for president.
