Comic-Con 2012: 'Game of Thrones' Confirms 14 Season 3 Cast Additions (Video)
"The Avengers'" own Emma Peel, Diana Rigg, is among the long list of new faces introduced during the panel, prompting George R.R. Martin to joke about killing off the current players.
Before slinging questions at some of the current cast members of HBO's Game of Thrones, writer George R.R. Martin kicked off Friday's Hall H panel by playing an introductory reel to 14 of the series' many new additions for the third season.
Many of the names had previously been reported, but fans started screaming when the slew of actors spoke about the significance of joining the series.
Leading the list of familiar names was Diana Rigg. The 73-year-old actress, best known for her work as Emma Peel on iconic '60s TV series The Avengers, will play Olenna Tyrell, "The Queen of Thorns."
"Diana Rigg as The Queen of Thorns," said Martin, whose commentary and line of questioning frequently focused on innuendo. "I flash back to my youth and all of my days watching The Avengers."
Readers of the books know Olenna is the grandmother of Margaery and Loras Tyrell.
Mackenzie Crook, best known for the British Office and The Pirates of the Carribean movies, will play wildling raider Orell.
Bryndon “The Blackfish” Tully will be played by Clive Russell. He's Catelyn Stark's uncle and estranged from his brother, Lord Hoster Tully.
Child slave Missandei, who works as a translator for Kraznys in Astapor, will be played by Hollyoakes actress Nathalie Emannuel.
Kerry Ingram joins as Stannis Baratheon's only child, Shireen, and Tara Fitzgerald will play her reclusive mother, Selyse.
Paul Kaye has landed the role of Thoros of Myr, a member of the outlaw band known as the Brotherhood Without Banners.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster will play a friend to Bran Stark, Jojen Reed, and Ellie Kendirck will play his sister Meera, oldest daughter of Stark loyalist Howland Reed.
Richard Dormer will play another member of Brotherhood Without Banners, Beric Dondarrion.
Kristofer Hivju is taking on Tormund Giantsbane, a wildling warrior and chief lieutenant of the “King Beyond the Wall,” Mance Rayder
Philip McGinley (Anguy), Tobias Menzies (Catelyn's brother Edmure Tully) and Anton Lesser (defunct maester Qyburn) round out the additions.
Watch the bulk of them make introductions in the clip below, first screened by HBO at Comic-Con. Game of Thrones Season 3 will premiere on March 31.
