Craig Zadan, Neil Meron Adapting Celebrity Adventure Show for NBC
Called "Better Late Than Never"
NBC is expanding its relationship with Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
The network has given a cast-contingent series order to Better Late Than Never, a celebrity adventure-reality hybrid show from the duo behind The Sound of Music Live! and Smash, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The series is based on the Korean format Grandpas Over Flowers and hails from Small World IFT. Now in its second season in Korea, Grandpas Over Flowers is a reality hybrid series that follows four beloved entertainment legends on their next great adventure. Deciding that it's "better late than never," they devise a plan to backpack across Southeast Asia. The original series was created and produced by CJE&M. (Think The Amazing Race with celebrities.)
Zadan and Meron — whose credits include feature The Bucket List as well as NBC's upcoming live production of Peter Pan, will executive produce the U.S. version, which will be called Better Late Than Never. The series hails from Small World IFT, which has a first-look deal at NBC that recently was extended for an additional year.
It's unclear which celebrities will participate and just where and what the adventure will be. If NBC can get a suitable cast to sign on, Better Late Than Never would go straight to series. Should the series move forward, it would join a roster of unscripted fare including celebrity reality entry Running Wild With Bear Grylls, The Biggest Loser, Hollywood Game Night, American Ninja Warrior, Last Comic Standing and America's Got Talent.
The series debuted in 2013 in Korea, where it set ratings records. Watch the trailer below.
