CW to Broadcast iHeartRadio Music Festival
The two-hour concert special will mark the youth-skewing network's official start of the fall TV season.
The CW network is kicking off its fall season with a concert.
The youth-skewing network on Wednesday announced that it would broadcast Clear Channel's iHeartRadio Music festival, a two-day concert featuring musicians Usher, Bon Jovi, Taylor Swift, Aerosmith, Rihanna, No Doubt, Green Day, Mary J. Blige and more.
The Sept. 21-22 concert, set for the MGM Grant in Las Vegas, will be broadcast on Monday, Oct. 1 from 8-10 p.m. on the CW, with participating artists featured on the broadcast to be announced later.
The concert will jumpstart the CW's fall season with the premiere of returning drama Hart of Dixie set for the following nit at 8 p.m.
"What better way to kick off our new fall season than with many of the music industry's biggest acts on the CW," CW president Mark Pedowitz said.
Added John Sykes, president of Clear Channel Entertainment Enterprises: "This exclusive broadcast event emphasizes our commitment to bringing great music and content to our audience anywhere they want it."
Other artists scheduled to participate include Pink, Lil Wayne, Miranda Lambert, Shakira, Brad Paisley, Enrique Iglesias, Jason Aldean, deadmau5, Calvin Harris and Pitbull, with more expected to be announced.
For the CW, the announcement comes after news that the network would broadcast Joss Whedon's three-part web series Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog in the fall as a one-hour special.
