'Arrow,' 'Carrie Diaries,' 'Beauty and the Beast' Get Pilot Orders at the CW
The "Sex and the City" prequel project marks the second project this pilot season for Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Len Goldstein's Fake Empire shingle.

The CW is moving forward with its Green Arrow project, the Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries and a modern-day Beauty and the Beast, ordering all three projects to pilot.
Arrow, based on DC Comics' long-running Green Arrow, revolves around the hooded superhero, a wealthy playboy by day who secretly saves the city by night using his enhanced arrows.
The hourlong drama is a modern retelling of the legendary comics character and hails from Green Lantern duo Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, who will executive produce and pen the project alongside Fringe co-EP Andrew Kreisberg, with whom they worked on Eli Stone.

The pilot order comes less than a week after the project landed at the network. The project hails from Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
Meanwhile, the young-skewing net has officially ordered Carrie Diaries, based on the book of the same name by Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell. It centers on Carrie Bradshaw during her senior year of high school in the early 1980s as she asks her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while navigating the worlds of high school and Manhattan.
Gossip Girl and Hart of Dixie duo Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Len Goldstein's Fake Empire will executive produce alongside Warner Bros. Television. Former Sex and the City scribe/co-producer Amy B. Harris will adapt the book and serve as showrunner.
The first book in Bushnell’s origin story was published last year and, like Sex and the City, is told from Carrie’s point of view. It follows the aspiring writer through her relationship with Sebastian Kydd and rivalry with popular girl Donna LaDonna.
HBO owns the rights to the series, with corporate cousin the CW hearing the pitch in September and immediately committing to the project.
The CW's Beauty and the Beast, meanwhile, is one of two projects mining the famed story this development season. The network's project is based on the 1980s CBS drama that starred Ron Perlman as Vincent (aka the Beast) and Linda Hamilton as Catherine (the Beauty).
Set up at CBS Television Studios, it's described as a modern-day romantic love story with a procedural twist. Felicity's Jennifer Levin and Brothers and Sisters' Sherri Cooper are attached to pen the project and executive produce alongside Paul Witt, C. Anthony Thomas, Ron Koslow and Bill Haber.
ABC's Beauty and the Beast, meanwhile, is a "reimagination" of the epic fantasy of the public domain fairy tale about a girl forced to live with a beast in a castle who ultimately falls in love with him.
Human Target scribe Jonathan E. Steinberg is attached to exec produce and pen ABC's project.
The projects join Schwartz, Savage and Goldstein's Rockne O'Bannon crime drama pilot Cult, which was picked up to pilot this month. The CW now airs a pair of Fake Empire series: Hart of Dixie and Gossip Girl.
