'Save the Last Dance' Star Joins CW's 'Hunger Games'-ish Drama Pilot (Exclusive)

The CW's Hunger Games-ish drama pilot has added an adviser.
Sean Patrick Thomas, who co-starred opposite Julia Stiles in Save the Last Dance, has been cast in The Selection, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
The project is described as an epic romance set 300 years in the future in which a poor young woman is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads.
Thomas will play Sylvan Santos, a close adviser to the current queen and an expert in royal etiquette who advises the participants in the competition.
The actor, whose recent small-screen credits also include episodes of the CW's Ringer and Lifetime's Army Wives, joins Friday Night Lights alum Aimee Teegarden and 10 Things I Hate About You's Ethan Peck in the project.
Teegarden play a poor young woman who competes become the next queen. For his part, Peck will play the handsome and regal Prince Maxon, whom the girls are competing to marry.
Based on the forthcoming series of books by Kiera Cass, The Vampire Diaries' Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain will write and executive produce the drama, which hails from Warner Bros. Television.
Thomas, whose credits also include CBS' 2000-2004 drama The District, is repped by Innovative Artists and Untitled Entertainment.
