'Daily Show': John Oliver Gives Jon Stewart Unceremonious Sendoff (Video)
The guest host hijacks his boss' moment of zen ahead of Stewart's eight-week hiatus from the Comedy Central show.
John Oliver had no qualms about making himself right at home as he sent his The Daily Show boss Jon Stewart off at the end of Thursday’s episode.
Stewart, who is taking a two-month leave from the Comedy Central show, attempted to give a heartfelt goodbye to the audience when Oliver, who will take over as guest host, busted in barking orders -- tape measurer in hand and cell phone at his ear.
Stewart cut to his moment of zen, but when the footage rolled it was of a gleeful Oliver standing behind Stewart's desk.
“It’s my show now. You can’t even throw to zen without me butting in,” Oliver said, grabbing Stewart’s pens from his desk and rubbing them inside his pants.
It cut back to a stunned-looking Stewart, pen dangling from his mouth.
“I thought you’d left. I’m sorry about the pens,” Oliver told him.
Stewart is taking an eight-week hiatus from The Daily Show to direct his first feature film, Rosewater. He also wrote the screenplay for the project, an adaptation of BBC journalist Maziar Bahari's New York Times best-selling memoir Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival.
Guests slated to appear during Oliver's run as host include Seth Rogen (June 10), Armando Iannucci (June 11), Mavis Staples (June 12) and Fareed Zakaria (June 13).
Stewart will return to the Daily Show on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
