TV Ratings: 'Dancing With the Stars' Closes Season on Down Note
ABC still grabs demo victory; "The X Factor" drops 18 percent for its special Tuesday episode.
Dancing With the Stars closed out its 13th edition on Tuesday night, crowning a winner after weeks of competition. But did it translate into viewership bump?
The ABC reality competition series crowned J.R. Martinez as the latest mirror ball trophy winner attracting 19.5 million total viewers tuned in with a 4.1 rating among adults 18-49 for the season finale from 9-11 p.m., down 23 percent in the latter category from last fall's fall closer (with Jennifer Grey named the victor) which averaged a 5.3 rating. Last night's episode slipped in viewers from Monday's first-parter and is the series' lowest-rated fall finale to date.

Even with the Dancing With the Stars downturn, ABC still notched the nightly victory in the advertiser-coveted demographic with a 3.5 average in primetime. The "man" comedies Last Man Standing (9.3 million total viewers, 2.7 rating in adults 18-49 demographic) and Man Up! (6.8 million, 1.9) both rose 4 percent and 12 percent from the previous week.
Fox placed second on the night in 18-49 with a special Tuesday episode of The X Factor (9.3 million, 3.2), down 18 percent in the demo from last week's comparable performance show. (Normally, the series airs Wednesdays and Thursdays.) In the younger 18-34 demo, Fox topped its broadcast competitors with a 2.7 average.
With Thanksgiving just hours away, several broadcast shows hit lows and CBS felt the brunt of it. Its drama lineup all sank to season or series lows, with NCIS (18.5 million, 3.5) seeing the biggest drop at 13 percent. NCIS: LA (14 million, 3.0) slumped 12 percent and freshman procedural Unforgettable (10.3 million, 2.2) dipped 8 percent to a series low.
NBC ranked fourth in 18-49, with a 1.9 average in primetime. The Biggest Loser (5.6 million, 2.0) dipped 5 percent from last week, while Parenthood (4.5 million, 1.9) dropped 5 percent to a season low.
The CW aired 90210 (1.3 million, 0.6) and a repeat of Hart of Dixie (944,000, 0.4).
