TNT is looking for its own Big Little Lies.

The Turner-owned cable network has handed out a pilot order to mystery drama Deadlier Than the Male.

The pilot, executive produced by Big Little Lies' Bruna Papandrea, centers on a trio of characters, each with a mysterious and troubling past, including a woman who once looked into the eyes of a dangerous killer, a former serial predator desperate to find redemption and a grieving mother obsessed with finding her missing daughter. As each of them is pushed to the edge, the truth about their pasts and their motives grows ever murkier, blurring the lines between victim and perpetrator.

The drama is being produced in-house by Turner's Studio T banner. Papandrea — Reese Witherspoon's former producing partner — will exec produce alongside Harriet Warner (Call the Midwife, Mistresses), who will pen the script. Casey Haver of Papandrea's Made Up Stories banner is also on board as an exec producer.

"Deadlier Than the Male will represent TNT's exploration into a new style of mystery drama," Sarah Aubrey, exec vp original programming at TNT, said Tuesday in a statement. "Unlike traditional mysteries, it's not about 'who done it,' but why it was done. We love Harriet's ability to paint visceral portraits of complicated people and put them inside the most satisfying puzzle box of a plot."

Deadlier Than the Male joins a TNT pilot roster that also includes the TV adaptation of Snowpiercer as well as The Deep Mad Dark, a mystery thriller about female friendship from John Wells, Warner Horizon Television and Studio T.

For her part, Papandrea's new Made Up Stories banner was formed in January and is currently producing and co-financing The Nightingale. Before that, Papandrea and Witherspoon launched Pacific Standard and produced the features Wild and Gone Girl and HBO's Big Little Lies.
