'Deadliest Catch' Captains Reveal Season Nine's Scariest Moments (Video)
From big waves to a crewmember nearly going overboard, Johnathan Hillstrand and Scott "Jr." Campbell talk to THR about the dangers of their job.
Deadliest Catch viewers will see many scary moments in season nine.
Time Bandit Captain Johnathan Hillstrand and Seabrooke Captain Scott "Jr." Campbell recently stopped by The Hollywood Reporter's Cover Lounge to share some of the most "hair raising" -- Hillstrand's words -- moments of the current season.
"We had a big wave, a big wave that hit the boat that ... pretty much scared me, and there's very few times that I've ever been scared," Campbell says. "We had an injury that almost cost a guy his leg."
He adds that another crewmember nearly went overboard.
Hillstrand, meanwhile, notes that his boat also got caught in a big wave and "a guy that almost lost his hand."
"That's the craziest thing about this show, and it's real, and God's the director, so nobody knows what's gonna happen," he adds of shooting the show. "When you go and you leave with your crew, your just want to bring the crew back, you want to catch the crab as quick as you can and come home."
Adds Campbell: "Mother Nature steals the show every time."
Hillstrand also touts that what viewers see is real, as it happens. Previous seasons' episodes have revolved around the death of star Phil Harris as well as the death of a crewman on board a factory trawler.
"It's the only real TV," Hillstrand says. "We don't have any lines."
Adds Campbell: "You never know [what's going to happen], and the thing about it is, [the weather] changes every five minutes."
Deadliest Catch airs at 9 p.m. Tuesdays on Discovery Channel.
