Demi Lovato on ALMA Performance: 'I Didn't Know What the Heck I was Saying' (Video)
Demi Lovato is no stranger to recording and performing in Spanish, but conversing is a different story.
During her Wednesday, Sept. 21 appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the singer explained that the language is not her strong suit -- When asked whether she knew Spanish, Lovato quickly replied, “Not at all!”
The former Disney star, who is of Mexican descent, performed her hit single “Skyscraper” in half English and half Spanish during the 2011 ALMA awards. Lovato was honored at the ceremony with Favorite TV Actress – Leading Role in a Comedy, for her work on Sonny With a Chance.
“I’ve memorized songs in Spanish before and I had a song called ‘Lo Que Soy,’ which is ‘This is Me’ in Spanish,” Lovato recalled. But when it came to “Rascacielo,” (“Skyscraper”) -- “I didn’t know what the heck I was saying,” she laughed.
“I decided to sing the song half English, half Spanish, but my brain would not memorize it,” she said. “So the day before I was like ‘You know, I might need a teleprompter.’
“While I’m gliding through fog in a tight red dress, I’m reading a teleprompter trying to look graceful, praying to God that I don’t fall,” Lovato added.
