Discovery Sets Special on 'The Last Huntsmen' (Exclusive)
THR debuts a clip from the show, which is about a group of survivalists who protect people living on the edge of the wilderness.
Discovery Channel is chronicling the work of an elite group of huntsmen who protect people living on the edge of the wildness in a new special.
The Last Huntsmen will follow four huntsmen and survivalists -- Jason Lesmeister, Cory Valdes, Roudy Roudebush and Rob Hardy -- whose job requires them to face dangerous animals and extreme weather, ranging from the icy Alaskan frontier to Peru's dangerous jungles.
In the special, Lesmeister travels to Haines, Alaska to help a mining camp drive away a problematic bear invading the camp, eventually leading to a face-to-face confrontation with a grizzly bear.
In Puerto Maldonado, Peru, a logging camp hires Valdes to carefully study the dense, rainforest terrain to determine if the workers reside in a jaguar’s hunting ground. Despite his pitfall traps, a dangerous encounter at night prompts Valdes to use every survival skill he knows.
Finally, Roudebush and Hardy journey to Telluride, Colo. to map out every black bear den for a logging company; however, the risks of being separated and altitude sickness transform this job into a treacherous adventure.
The hourlong special premieres on Friday, Aug. 23, at 10 p.m. ET/PT following Gold Rush: South America. Watch a clip, which is exclusive to The Hollywood Reporter, above.
The Last Huntsmen is produced for Discovery Channel by Skip Film, with Justin Tucker, Brian Gallagher and Skip Chaisson as executive producers. Joseph Schneier is executive producer for Discovery.
