Disney Channel Orders Zendaya's 'K.C. Undercover' to Series
The live-action comedy has been given an official pickup.
Disney Channel is staying in business with Zendaya.
The cable network has given a series order to spy comedy K.C. Undercover (previously Super Awesome Katy), starring the Shake It Up alum. Production begins this summer in Los Angeles for an early 2015 premiere.
K.C. Undercover centers on K.C. Cooper, a high school math whiz who's training to be an undercover super spy, following in the footsteps of her parents. Each episode finds the Coopers balancing typical family issues with performing undercover missions to protect the country.
The project marks a reunion between Zendaya, who is a co-producer, and Shake It Up's Rob Lotterstein, who is an executive producer. Kadeem Hardison, Tammy Townsend, Kamil McFadden and Veronica Dunne co-star. Zendaya next stars in the Disney original movie Zapped!, which premieres Friday, June 27, at 8 p.m. ET/PT ahead of Girl Meets World.
"Zendaya and Rob Lotterstein are a powerhouse combination to produce Disney Channel's next action-driven sitcom," said Adam Bonnett, executive vp original programming at Disney Channels Worldwide. "This show has all of the Disney Channel attributes – family, friendship, humor and heart – all from the point of view of an incredibly talented and relatable teenage girl."
K.C. Undercover is created by Corinne Marshall. The series order comes six months after Disney Channel officially ordered the project to pilot.
The live-action series joins a slate that includes Jessie, Liv and Maddie, Austin & Ally, Dog With a Blog, I Didn't Do It and the upcoming Girl Meets World.
