'Doctor Who' Series 8 Premiere to Hit Select Theaters
UPDATED: The premiere will debut in theaters in the U.S. on Aug. 25.
As with the 50th anniversary special, fans will be able to catch the Doctor Who series 8 premiere in theaters.
The first episode of the latest series is set to debut in select theaters worldwide on Aug. 23, the BBC announced on Friday. The show had previously set a TV premiere on BBC America on the same date. In the United States, the premiere will hit theaters on Aug. 25.
Viewers who do decide to tune in on the big screen are being promised unspecified "additional content" that presumably wont be seen in the TV version of the premiere. No details have yet been revealed on which countries will have theatrical engagements for the show.
"Last November the Doctor didn't just conquer the world on television, he did it in the cinemas too. And like the show-off he is, he can't resist another go — one taste of the silver screen is never enough," said showrunner Steven Moffat in a statement.
The anniversary special grossed $10.2 million in its three-day theatrical engagement last fall.
